California Latino Legislative Caucus Speaker Series (2010)

Every year the California Latino Legislative Caucus (CLLC) hosts its Speaker Series event to educate legislators, staff, community advocates, and state agency employees on contemporary issues affecting policymaking in our State. The events are designed to feature a variety of distinguished journalists and political writers to present on their most recently published work.

This year the Latino Caucus Speaker Series featured a very special guest, life long political journalist and writer, Peter Schrag, to present on his most recent book “Not Fit for our Society: Immigration and Nativism” in America, published in May 2010, where he addressed the issues of immigration, globalization, and the impact of California's current political climate on recapturing the American Dream.

Senator Gilbert Cedillo, Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, honored Mr. Schrag with a Senate Resolution recognizing his lifetime dedication as a political writer and journalist who served for 19 years as editorial page editor of the Sacramento Bee.

Former Speakers and Presenters included:

Geraldo Rivera – A Peabody and Emmy Award winning journalist and former talk show host – author of “His Panic: Why Americans Fear Hispanics in the U.S.”
